Trails and Open Space
Parks
The City maintains seven beautiful parks and various rentable facilities for the community to enjoy. All parks are maintained by the Maintenance Department. To report a problem such as an irrigation leak or broken equipment at one of the City’s parks, please contact the Maintenance Department at (925) 673-7327 or submit a Service Request.
Trails an Open Space
The City of Clayton is located at the base of the north slope of Mount Diablo State Park and contains an extensive trail system throughout the City connecting various neighborhoods to its Town Center as well as connecting to the State Park trail system and Black Diamond Mines Regional Park. Clayton has a wide variety of trails appealing to bicyclists, hikers, walkers, and equestrians. Flat paved routes meander along the City’s creeks and steep rugged trails transverse the surrounding hills. The City of Clayton has 27 miles of trails and 515 acres of open space.
Clayton’s trails are affiliated with the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail, which roughly follows the Mokelumne River spanning from the Carquinez Strait to the Sierra Mountains, and the American Discovery Trail, spanning 6,800 miles from Point Reyes on west coast to Delaware Bay on the east coast.
