Street Maintenance
There are 84 miles of roads within the City of Clayton including 1,000 streetlights and over 1,000 street signs. The City of Clayton has received a Pavement Condition Index rating of 81, falling into the “very good” range, which places the city within the top ten jurisdictions with the best roads in the entire Bay Area.
Potholes, Street Markings, and Street Signs
Maintenance is responsible for filling potholes and maintaining street signs and markings on City-owned public streets. To report a pothole or a missing street sign, please contact the Maintenance Department at (925) 673-7327 or submit a Service Request.
Sidewalk Repairs
To report damage to any City sidewalk, curb, or gutter, call the Maintenance Department at (925) 673-7327 or submit a Service Request. Please note, under California’s Streets and Highways Code, sidewalks adjacent to private property are required to be maintained by the property owner.
Sandbags
Clayton residents can fill sandbags at the City’s maintenance yard, located at 6000 Heritage Trail, north of City Hall. During regular business hours, shovels and bags are available at the maintenance yard and the sand is located in the dirt lot adjacent to the Keller House and across the creek from the Clayton Library. If sandbags are needed during non-business hours, please call Clayton Police Dispatch at (925) 673-7350 for access. The number of sandbags is limited to 50 and are available to Clayton residents only.
Stormdrains and Inlets
The Maintenance Department is responsible for cleaning strom drain inlets and v-ditches. To report a blocked inlet or v-ditch or if water is not draining from a street, please contact the Maintenance Department at (925) 673-7327 to report flooded locations or problem areas. For non-business hours, please call Clayton Police Dispatch at (925) 673-7350.
